Mustard Crop: Protect the mustard crop from severe cold and disease
Ratan Shankar Ojha tells that while sowing mustard, farmers should use 90 kg nitrogen, 125 kg single super phosphate and 30 kg potash. It is very important to irrigate the mustard crop at the right time.
Mustard Farming: Mustard farming is important among the oilseed crops of Rabi season. The first week of November to December is most suitable for sowing mustard. According to scientists, to reduce the chances of loss, mustard sowing should be completed from 5 November to 25 November. But some farmers have not been able to sow mustard till now due to the field not being ready or other reasons. Such farmers can now sow late varieties of mustard.
District Agriculture Protection Officer Basti Ratan Shankar Ojha tells that among the late varieties of mustard, two major varieties are “Ashirwad” and “Vardan”. These varieties are ready in less time as compared to normal varieties. These varieties take about 110 days to be ready, whereas normal varieties are ready in 130 to 135 days.

Ratan Shankar Ojha tells that while sowing mustard, farmers should use 90 kg nitrogen, 125 kg single super phosphate and 30 kg potash. It is very important to irrigate the mustard crop at the right time. 4-5 irrigations are required for mustard cultivation. If there is a shortage of water, 4 irrigations should be done.
In this, the first irrigation should be done at the time of sowing, the second irrigation 25-30 days after sowing, the third irrigation at the time of flowering (45-50 days later) and the fourth irrigation (70-80 days later) at the time of pod formation. If it rains in the winter season, then there is not much need for irrigation. Production can increase by 20% by applying 20 kg of sulfur per hectare 20-25 days after sowing.
To prevent frost and blight disease, farmers should collect dry leaves in the fields in the morning or evening and light a fire. After lighting the fire, put green leaves on it so that smoke starts rising. This can increase the temperature of the atmosphere by 1-3 degrees. Apart from this, light irrigation can also be done with fresh water in the evening, which increases the temperature.
Ratan Shankar Ojha explains that there is less time for sowing late varieties and the weather conditions are not like normal sowing, due to which the yield may decrease. Therefore, varieties like Ashirwad and Vardaan can produce about 25 to 30 quintals per hectare. Sowing of mustard crop is usually done from October to November, but those farmers who have not been able to sow till now, can sow these late varieties till 12 December.
