An accused in the murder of Baba Tarsem Singh, the Dera Karseva chief of Nanakmatta Gurudwara in Udham Nagar Singh, Uttarakhand, has been killed in an encounter. He was killed in an encounter with Uttarakhand STF and Haridwar police late last night. While, the other accused managed to escape from there, who is being sought.

Tarsem Singh was considered the leader of the Sikhs in the Punjab and the Tarai. Sarabjit Singh, a resident of Miavind village in Tarn Taran, claimed responsibility for his murder.

According to the report, Amarjit Singh, who shot dead Tarsem Singh, was killed by Uttarakhand STF and Haridwar police in an encounter in Bhagwanpur area. Amarjit Singh's other accomplice is absconding and STF and police are searching for him.

Haridwar SSP Parminder Doval said an encounter between STF-police and sharpshooter Amarjit Singh alias Bittu took place at Bhagwanpur in Haridwar, in which the main accused was killed. More than 16 cases were registered against Amarjit.

Uttarakhand DGP Abhinav Kumar said police and STF were continuously searching for the two accused after Tarsem's murder. He said that police would deal strictly with those who commit such heinous crimes in Uttarakhand.

Tarsem Singh was rushed to Khatima Hospital, a sevadar of the dera, but died before reaching there. Baba Tarsem Singh was a big face of the Sikhs in Punjab, Uttarakhand and especially in the Terai region.

Besides Sarabjit Singh and Amarjit Singh, the police have also named Harbans Singh Chugh, head of Shri Nanakmatta Sahib, Pritam Singh Sandhu, resident of Khempur Gadarpur and Jathedar Baba Anoop Singh as accused in the case.
