Cyclone Helen caused massive destruction, 15 US states hit by floods
The Helen cyclone that rose in the Atlantic Ocean has caused tremendous devastation in America. This storm has attained Category-4 status and is still increasing its strength. Today on 28 September 2024 the National Hurricane Center informed that 15 states of America have been flooded due to Hurricane Helen. Coastal areas are suffering severe damage due to 10 to 20 feet high waves in many areas. Also this storm has also strengthened Cyclone Isaac due to which the situation is expected to worsen.
Heavy floods in America due to Helen cyclone
After hitting the Florida coast of America Helen cyclone has wreaked havoc in many states. Winds blowing at a speed of 150 to 200 kilometers per hour blew away the roofs of houses uprooted trees and disrupted power supply in many places. Sea waves due to Helen have badly affected the coastal areas of Florida and floodwater has flooded roads and houses here.
According to government sources about 15 million people have been affected by this disaster who have had to leave their homes and migrate to safer places. Florida Georgia North Carolina South Carolina Virginia and Alabama have recorded the most devastation. President Joe Biden has declared an emergency in these states and relief operations have been intensified.
Cyclone Isaac strengthened due to Hurricane Helen
Another storm Cyclone Isaac is gaining strength in the Atlantic Ocean due to Hurricane Helen. The storm is currently about 1080 miles west of the Azores Islands with winds of 75 mph. It is moving east-northeast at a speed of 18 mph and meteorologists predict that the storm may become even stronger by the end of this week. However it is likely to weaken early next week.
Cyclone Joyce also poses a threat
Along with this another cyclone Joyce is also forming in the Atlantic Ocean which is located about 1325 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands. Hurricane Joyce's winds are blowing at a speed of about 40 miles per hour and it is moving northwest at a speed of 13 miles per hour. According to the Meteorological Department this storm is expected to gradually strengthen but it is expected to weaken early next week.
Relief and rescue operations
Rescue teams have been activated after the destruction caused by Hurricane Helen. The US Coast Guard has released a video of rescuing a man and his dog affected by Hurricane Helen who were stranded in the sea near Sanibel Island. Relief materials are being delivered to help the people affected by the flood waters and essential services are being provided to them. The government is appealing to people to move to safer places.
Warnings and Alerts
According to the Miami-based National Hurricane Center although no direct alerts have been issued for hurricanes Helen and Isaac the sea waves associated with these storms can pose a serious threat to the Azores Islands. People living in coastal areas are being advised to remain alert and follow the instructions issued by the local administration.
