Father used to work as a bus conductor

Renu was born in Kottayam, Kerala. Her father used to work in a government job and also worked as a bus conductor. Renu studied at St. Teresa Higher Secondary School in Changanassery. After this, she obtained a doctor's degree from the Government Medical College of Kottayam.

This is how the decision was taken

Even while working as a surgeon, Renu decided to fulfill another dream of hers. She started preparing to become an IAS officer. Renu not only cleared this difficult exam in her first attempt but also secured the second rank in the whole of India. That too without any coaching.

Why did she leave medicine

Once explaining why she left medicine, Renu had said, "As a doctor, I could help only 50-100 patients. But as an officer, one decision can change the lives of thousands of people."
