Heavy Rain Alert

According to the latest update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), many parts of North India, including Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, are going to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next few days. The IMD has issued an orange alert for these states, warning of heavy rains that may lead to landslides and floods. The rains are expected to continue till at least Tuesday, October 1, 2024, with significant impact on both hilly states and plains. Along with this, moderate to heavy rains have also been warned in many areas of Uttar Pradesh and parts of NCR.

Rain Alert in Other States

The alert is not limited to the northern regions alone. Heavy rainfall is expected in Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat's Saurashtra and Kutch regions by September 29, 2024. Additionally, Bihar, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura could witness heavy rain from September 30 to October 2, as predicted by the IMD. This prolonged monsoon activity is causing disruptions in many areas, including potential waterlogging, travel delays, and disruptions in daily life.

National Capital Sees Rainfall

Delhi and the surrounding NCR regions also witnessed light to moderate rainfall this week, providing much-needed relief from the ongoing heatwave. While the rainfall brought down temperatures in Delhi on Saturday, it also resulted in traffic disruptions due to waterlogging in several parts of the city, such as Badarpur and Greater Noida.

Impact on Nepal and Bordering States

The situation is also critical in Nepal, where the IMD issued a red alert for heavy rains. Nepal shares borders with Indian states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Uttarakhand, which could face the ripple effects of this weather pattern. The adverse weather conditions in Nepal have already led to the cancellation of domestic flights and restrictions on vehicular movement during nighttime hours.
