Travelers Express Concerns Over Disruptions
Currently, the Kaithal depot operates 192 roadways and kilometer-scheme buses, with around 15 buses regularly under maintenance or undergoing repairs. With a significant portion of the fleet allocated to the rally, a shortage of buses is inevitable. Many passengers have voiced their discontent, arguing that the government should make alternate transport arrangements instead of relying on public roadways for political events.
Passengers like Sarendra, Ramniwas, Manjeet, Sahil, Narpat, Suman, Meenakshi, Shakuntala, and Neetu shared their concerns. They suggested that if large sums of money are being spent on organizing rallies, provisions for private vehicles should also be made to prevent public inconvenience.
Revenue Loss for Kaithal Depot
The Kaithal depot handles approximately 20,000 passengers daily, generating around ₹18 lakh in revenue every day. The diversion of buses for the rally is expected to significantly impact daily earnings, further straining the already overburdened transport system.Commuters also emphasized that roadways buses should not be used for political purposes, as it disrupts regular services and affects those who depend on public transport for their livelihood.
Travelers’ Plight on Affected Routes
The shortage of buses is expected to impact several routes, leaving many regular passengers stranded or forced to look for alternative modes of transport. Routes connecting key areas like Chandigarh and Delhi are likely to face the most significant disruptions, as these are heavily used by commuters daily. Many passengers have already started making alternate arrangements, though not without frustration. The sentiment is clear: such disruptions to public services should be avoided, especially when alternatives exist.
Steps Needed to Prevent Future Issues
This situation has once again highlighted the need for the government to reconsider using public transport for political events. Allocating private transportation or chartered buses for rallies would ensure that public services remain uninterrupted, preventing inconvenience to the general public.
