IMD Weather Alert: North India to Witness Cold Wave, Rain Expected in Coastal Areas

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has released its latest weather forecast for various regions of the country. While a cold wave is predicted to intensify across northern India, parts of southern and western India are likely to experience light rain and cloudy skies.
North India to Face Intense Cold Wave
In northern states like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, the minimum temperature is expected to drop significantly. The IMD has warned of freezing conditions in the hilly regions and chilly winds sweeping across the plains.

Snowfall in Himachal Pradesh and Nearby Regions
The hill states are witnessing severe cold conditions. Himachal Pradesh is experiencing continued snowfall in places like Lahul-Spiti, where the temperature dropped to -12.7 degrees Celsius. Shimla and its neighboring areas, including Khadrala and Kalpa, reported light snowfall with 2.0 cm and 0.2 cm recorded, respectively.
Some regions also experienced minimal rain; for instance, Bhabanagar received 1.8 mm of rain. The IMD predicts similar weather for the next few days, with dry conditions dominating most parts of Himachal Pradesh except for light rain and snow in isolated regions on December 12.
Cloudy Skies and Temperature Drops
In states like Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the weather is expected to remain chilly, with partly cloudy skies during the day. Temperatures are likely to dip further at night. Cities such as Nagpur and Bhopal may also witness light rainfall.

Isolated Showers Expected
Maharashtra and Gujarat could witness light rain, particularly in their coastal regions. Mumbai is expected to experience overcast skies with a temperature range of 22-30 degrees Celsius.
Scattered Rainfall and Warm Weather
States like Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar are likely to experience scattered rain. In cities like Kolkata and Patna, the weather will remain warm and humid, with occasional rain showers.
Light Rain and Storms
North-eastern states such as Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Manipur are likely to witness light rain accompanied by thunderstorms. Cloudy skies and slightly warmer temperatures are expected throughout the day.
