NEET PG 2024 Counseling Cancelled: Madhya Pradesh High Court Orders Fresh Merit List

The controversy arose from the state government's preparation of the NEET PG 2024 merit list, which involved applying the normalization process twice. This double normalization led to inconsistencies in the rankings of serving candidates.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has delivered a significant verdict by canceling the NEET PG 2024 counseling process. The decision was made due to irregularities in awarding additional marks to serving medical officers. A division bench led by Justice Sanjiv Sachdeva has instructed the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to prepare a fresh state merit list.

The Issue at Hand

The controversy arose from the state government’s preparation of the NEET PG 2024 merit list, which involved applying the normalization process twice. This double normalization led to inconsistencies in the rankings of serving candidates.

Many doctors filed petitions, claiming that medical officers working in rural areas were not given the benefit of additional marks. Aditya Sanghi, the counsel for the petitioners, argued that the newly prepared list violated rules and jeopardized the careers of hundreds of candidates.

High Court’s Directives

The High Court annulled the merit list and counseling process, citing a lack of compliance with established rules. The court emphasized that the preparation of the merit list without adhering to proper guidelines compromises transparency in the selection process.

The court ordered that all serving doctors must receive the full benefit of additional marks they are entitled to in the new merit list. Only after the revised list is finalized should the counseling process resume. This decision aims to ensure strict adherence to rules and a fair selection process.

Relief for Affected Doctors

This ruling provides relief to medical officers who have served in rural areas for three years but were denied the benefit of additional marks. The court’s decision is expected to bring transparency and reform to the medical counseling process.
