The Haryana government has approved a 7% increase in DA for employees and pensioners under the Sixth Pay Commission. The DA has now been raised from 239% to 246%, offering financial relief amidst rising inflation.

Haryana government employees and pensioners have reason to celebrate as the state government has announced a hike in dearness allowance (DA). This decision will benefit both fifth and sixth pay commission employees and pensioners, significantly improving their monthly compensation. The revised DA rates will come into effect from July 1, 2024, as per the announcement on Wednesday, November 29, 2024. The state government issued the formal orders through Anurag Rastogi, the Additional Chief Secretary (Finance).

Key Highlights of the Announcement

Revised DA for Sixth Pay Commission Employees

The Haryana government has approved a 7% increase in DA for employees and pensioners under the Sixth Pay Commission. The DA has now been raised from 239% to 246%, offering financial relief amidst rising inflation.

Increased DA for Fifth Pay Commission Employees

For employees and pensioners under the Fifth Pay Commission, the DA has been enhanced by 12%, increasing the rate from 443% to 455%. This significant boost aims to align compensation with inflationary trends, ensuring a stable purchasing power for retired and active state employees.

Effective Date and Payment Details

  1. The increased DA will be included in the November 2024 salaries and pensions.
  2. Arrears for four months (July to October 2024) will be paid along with the January 2025 salary and pension.

These adjustments are expected to bring additional financial relief to over 1.5 lakh employees and pensioners in the state.

Center’s Recent DA Hike as a Precursor

On November 15, 2024, the central government announced a similar increase in DA for its employees and pensioners under the Fifth and Sixth Pay Commissions. Haryana’s move mirrors the central government’s initiative, ensuring parity for state employees.

DA Hike: Why It Matters

Dearness Allowance is a critical component of compensation that helps government employees cope with rising inflation. The periodic revision of DA ensures that salaries and pensions remain aligned with the cost of living, providing financial stability.

Economic Implications of the DA Hike

While the move benefits employees and pensioners, it also puts an additional financial burden on the state’s treasury. The Haryana government has allocated several crores of rupees to fund this DA hike. Despite this, the decision reflects the administration’s commitment to the welfare of its workforce.
